Brown is the colour most people actually wear, and the one most wig ranges treat as an afterthought behind black and blonde. It's also the most forgiving: warm enough to lift the complexion, dark enough to be unremarkable, and flattering on a far wider range of skin tones than solid black.

This is that colour in a soft body wave, at 22 and 24 inches, on the simplest cap to install.

Body wave at mid-back length

Body wave is the most wearable texture there is — an open, gentle S-wave that gives movement and body without committing you to a curl. It looks styled on days you've done nothing, it hides a slightly off parting, and it survives being slept on in a way straight hair doesn't.

At 22 to 24 inches it sits through the mid-back toward the waist. That's long enough to be a real change from your own hair and short enough to still be manageable — past about 28 inches, wigs start needing tying back at night and get caught in bags and seatbelts. This length mostly doesn't.

Body wave loses a little visible length to the wave pattern, so expect it to sit slightly shorter than the stated measurement.

Why a 4x4 closure

The 4x4 is the simplest lace wig to install and the hardest to get wrong. Four inches of lace gives a convincing parting without the ear-to-ear lace of a frontal, which means far less to lay, far less to trim, and far less that can go visibly wrong at the temples.

The trade-off is parting freedom — you're picking a spot and largely staying there, and pushing it back off the face will show the cap edge. If you part in the middle and wear your hair down, which is how most people wear long hair most days, that's a trade worth making for how much easier it is.

With adjustable straps and combs it can also be worn without adhesive at all: on in the morning, off at night, nothing on your skin.

Why it's worth buying

  • Brown flatters more people than black. Solid black is stark against pale and mid tones and can drain the face. A warm brown reflects light back.
  • It photographs better. Brown shows depth and shadow; black tends to go flat and lose all its detail in pictures.
  • Length without the wait. Growing to 24 inches takes most people years, and keeping it in good condition that whole time is its own project.
  • Easy to install. A 4x4 with straps and combs is about as forgiving as lace wigs get — a sensible choice if frontals have put you off.
  • Human hair. Straighten it for a completely different look, then wash it back to the wave.
  • It protects your own hair. No heat, no colour, no daily manipulation underneath.

Care

Never brush the wave out dry — detangle wet, with conditioner in, using fingers or a wide-tooth comb from the ends upward. Wash with a sulphate-free shampoo in sections rather than piling it up, condition through the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots, and air dry on a stand. Use a heat protectant before hot tools and keep temperatures moderate. At this length, tie it back or braid it loosely at night so the ends don't rub. Handle the lace gently at the parting; it's finer than the cap and tears more easily.

The colour most people want, at a length most people can't grow.
