Why a 4x4 closure

The 4x4 is the simplest lace wig to install and the hardest to get wrong. Four inches of lace across the top gives you a convincing parting without the ear-to-ear lace of a frontal, which means far less to lay, far less to trim, and far less that can go visibly wrong at the temples.

The trade-off is parting freedom: you're choosing a spot and largely staying there, and off-the-face styles will show the cap edge. If you part in the middle and wear your hair down — which most people do, most days — that trade is worth making for how much easier it is to wear.

150% density, and why that's the right number here

Higher isn't automatically better. 200% and above gives you volume that photographs beautifully but announces itself in an office. 150% is the density that reads as a normal head of hair — light on the cap, comfortable across a full day, and genuinely difficult to spot.

Straight hair also shows density more honestly than waves do; there's no texture to hide behind. At 150% it falls the way real straight hair falls, rather than sitting in a thick curtain.

Find your length

Ten inches through to twenty-six. 10" to 12" sits at the chin and jaw for a bob. 16" to 18" reaches the collarbone and shoulder. 20" to 22" runs through the mid-back, and 24" to 26" heads toward the waist. Straight hair loses almost nothing to shrinkage, so the stated length is close to what you'll see.

Worth knowing: wigs arrive compressed from packaging and look thinner and shorter than expected out of the box. Shake it out and let it hang before judging.

Use a heat protectant and keep temperatures moderate — straight hair tempts you to flat-iron it often, and that's what wears a wig out. Handle the lace gently at the parting; it's fine and tears more easily than the cap. Store it on a stand or in a silk bag between wears.
