Size

Kinky curly is the texture that matches natural afro hair rather than approximating it. A tight, springy coil pattern that blends with 4A through 4C hair the way body wave and straight extensions never quite manage — no obvious seam between your hair and the added length, because the pattern is the same.

These are human hair wefts, sold as single bundles in lengths from 8 to 20 inches. Sewn, bonded or clipped in, they add thickness and length that behaves like your own hair: it coils, it shrinks, it drinks conditioner, and it can be washed and revived rather than replaced.

Read this before you choose a length

Kinky curly shrinks more than any other texture — commonly to half its stretched length, sometimes less. A 20" bundle can sit at 8" to 10" once it's dry and in its natural state.

That is normal and it is not a fault. But it's the single commonest reason people are disappointed by curly extensions, so buy accordingly: choose roughly double the length you want to see. If you're after shoulder-length volume, look at 16" to 20", not 10".

What the different lengths do

  • 8" to 12" — volume and fullness rather than length. Sits underneath to thicken a twist-out, fill out a puff, or add body to a short natural style. The most economical way to make thin or fine natural hair look dense.
  • 14" to 20" — visible added length once shrinkage is accounted for, sitting somewhere between chin and shoulder in its natural state, and considerably longer when stretched or blown out.

Why it's worth buying

  • It actually blends. Straight and wavy extensions on natural 4-type hair mean either straightening your own hair to match or accepting a visible mismatch. Same-texture wefts solve that.
  • It's protective. Installed properly, your own hair is tucked away and left alone — no daily manipulation, no heat, no tension on the edges.
  • It stretches and straightens. Human hair, so you can blow it out or flat-iron it for a completely different look, then wash it back to the coil.
  • It's reusable. Take it out, co-wash it, condition it, reinstall. The same bundles come back several times.
  • Low entry cost. A single short bundle costs less than a wash-and-go appointment, and it's an inexpensive way to find out whether extensions suit you.
  • You control the density. Buy one bundle or four. Nothing decides for you.

How many?

One bundle for volume or a partial install. Two to three for a full head at these lengths — kinky curly is bulky by nature, so it fills space faster than straighter textures and you often need fewer bundles than you'd expect.

Care

Treat it like natural hair, because that's what it is.

  • Never comb it dry. Detangle soaking wet with plenty of conditioner, fingers first, then a wide-tooth comb from the ends upward. Dry detangling shreds the coil pattern.
  • Co-wash rather than shampoo most of the time. Coily hair dries out fast, and it has no scalp feeding it oil.
  • Deep condition regularly and seal with a light oil or butter on the ends.
  • Air dry in twists or braids to keep the pattern defined and stop it matting.
  • Refresh with water and leave-in between wears rather than rewashing.

The same texture as your own hair, in whatever length and quantity you need.
