Straight hair shows colour honestly

There's no wave pattern to break the shade up, no texture to hide behind. A flat colour on straight hair either looks rich or it looks cheap, and there's nowhere for it to hide. Chocolate brown holds up to that: it has genuine warmth and depth in it rather than the cool near-black that a lot of brown hair turns out to be, and on a straight surface that depth catches light down the whole length.

Against black, brown is the more forgiving choice on most complexions. Solid black is stark against pale and mid skin tones and can pull colour out of the face; brown reflects light back. It also photographs considerably better — black loses its detail in pictures and reads as a silhouette.

150% density, and three lengths

At 150% the density is natural rather than dramatic — light on the cap, comfortable through a full day, and difficult to spot. Straight hair shows density more honestly than waves do, and at 150% it falls the way real straight hair falls rather than sitting in a thick curtain.

Sixteen inches sits at the shoulder. 22 inches runs through the mid-back. 24 inches heads toward the waist. Straight hair loses almost nothing to shrinkage, so the stated length is close to what you'll actually see — which isn't true of the waved and curly options.

Worth knowing: wigs arrive compressed from packaging and look thinner and shorter than expected. Shake it out and let it hang before judging it.

Use a heat protectant and keep temperatures moderate — straight hair tempts frequent flat-ironing, and that's what wears a wig out faster than anything else. At 22 inches and above, tie it back or braid it loosely at night so the ends don't rub. Handle the lace gently at the parting; it's finer than the cap and tears more easily.
